Turtle Conservation
The Keta Ramsar Centre (KRC), based in Anyanui in Ghana’s Volta Region, is dedicated to protecting endangered sea turtles along the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site. The Center safeguards nesting grounds for the olive ridley, leatherback, and green turtle—species facing threats from poaching, predation, and climate-driven erosion. Through night patrols, hatchery management, community education, and awareness campaigns, KRC works with local and international partners to protect nesting females, rescue eggs, and safely release hatchlings into the sea. Despite challenges from rising tides and habitat destruction, the Center has successfully released thousands of hatchlings back into the ocean, giving hope for the survival of these threatened species. Your donation can help us rebuild hatcheries, protect nesting beaches, and secure the future of sea turtles along Ghana’s coast.

Mangrove Restoration
Keta Ramsar Centre NGO is actively restoring degraded mangrove ecosystems within the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site. Working with local women and youth, the Centre provides training in mangrove nursery establishment, management, and planting. These efforts not only rebuild natural coastal defenses against erosion and sea level rise but also support fisheries, protect biodiversity, and create sustainable livelihoods. Through community participation and partnerships with organizations such as Seawater Solutions Ltd, Keta Ramsar Centre is ensuring that mangroves continue to serve as living shields for both people and wildlife along Ghana’s vulnerable coastline.
Your donation can help expand mangrove nurseries, train more local communities, and restore larger areas of degraded wetlands—securing both livelihoods and coastal protection for generations to come.

Eco-Tourism
Keta Ramsar Centre NGO promotes eco-tourism as part of its conservation mission, turning the unique biodiversity of the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site into opportunities for education, livelihood, and sustainable development. Visitors are guided through turtle nesting beaches, mangrove restoration sites, and wetland ecosystems, learning firsthand about sea turtle conservation, mangrove planting, and community-based wildlife protection. Through eco-tours, the Centre not only raises awareness of endangered species such as sea turtles, manatees, and crocodiles but also supports local livelihoods by engaging community members as tour guides and conservation stewards. These efforts ensure that protecting nature also brings direct benefits to the people living alongside it. Support eco-tourism, support conservation. Your donation helps us improve eco-tour facilities, train more local guides, and strengthen community-led conservation. Every contribution makes it possible to protect endangered wildlife while creating sustainable livelihoods for local families.

Bright Future Fund
Healthy mangroves and thriving sea turtles mean abundant fish, safer coasts, and resilient communities. Yet rising seas, poaching, and habitat loss continue to endanger these fragile species—and the livelihoods that depend on them. The Bright Future Fund, established by the Keta Ramsar Centre NGO, works to restore habitats, build turtle hatcheries, train youth, and promote conservation education in schools—uniting communities to protect nature. Support the Bright Future Fund—because safeguarding turtles today builds a stronger tomorrow for us all.

Safe Shores for Tomorrow
Through clean-up exercises and community sensitization, the Keta Ramsar Centre NGO works to create safer shores along the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site. By engaging local residents, schools, and fishermen, the Center raises awareness on the importance of protecting sea turtles, mangroves, and other aquatic species while keeping nesting beaches free from waste and hazards. These efforts not only safeguard vulnerable wildlife but also strengthen coastal resilience and promote healthier, sustainable communities. Join us in making our shores safer. Your donation helps us expand clean-up activities, educate more communities, and provide lasting protection for sea turtles and mangroves. Every contribution brings us closer to a resilient coast and a safer tomorrow.

Save Adult Female Turtles
Keta Ramsar Center NGO works tirelessly to protect nesting female sea turtles along Ghana’s coastline. Volunteers patrol beaches at night to prevent poaching, guide turtles safely back to the sea after nesting, and protect their eggs from predators and human threats. By operating hatcheries, the Center ensures that eggs laid by these turtles—many of which would otherwise be destroyed—are safely incubated until hatching, after which the young are released into the ocean. These efforts provide a lifeline for vulnerable species such as the Olive Ridley, Leatherback, and Green turtles, helping to secure their survival despite growing threats from poaching, predation, and climate change. You can make a difference. Support Keta Ramsar Center’s work by donating today—every contribution helps us protect nesting turtles, rebuild destroyed hatcheries, and give thousands of hatchlings a safe start in life.
Featured Projects
Projects that safeguard turtles, mangroves, and the people who depend on them

Mangrove Restoration
By training women and youth in mangrove nursery establishment and planting, KRC restores degraded coastal areas. Healthy mangroves act as natural barriers, protecting communities from tidal waves, flooding, and erosion, while also serving as breeding grounds for fish and crabs that support local livelihoods.

Sea Turtle Conservation
KRC provides safe nesting grounds for endangered and vulnerable sea turtle species, including the Olive Ridley, Leatherback, and Green turtle. Through hatchery management, night patrols, and egg protection, the Centre ensures thousands of hatchlings are safely released each year. This not only preserves biodiversity but also strengthens marine ecosystems that sustain local fisheries.

Youth Eco-Guardians Program
Keta Ramsar Center Youth Eco-Guardians Program The future of our coast lies in the hands of the next generation. Through the Youth Eco-Guardians Program, we empower young people to become beach monitors, mangrove ambassadors, and conservation storytellers. They gain practical skills in protecting wildlife and ecosystems while developing the confidence to inspire and lead their communities. Impact: Building a generation of environmentally conscious leaders dedicated to safeguarding our wetlands and coastlines. Call to Action: “Teach the young, protect the future.”

How We Protect Coasts and Communities
The Keta Ramsar Center (KRC), a community-based environmental NGO in Ghana’s Volta Region, plays a critical role in safeguarding both coastal ecosystems and the livelihoods of communities who depend on them. Operating within the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site, KRC’s efforts combine wildlife conservation, climate adaptation, and community engagement.

Combating Erosion and Climate Impacts
Facing increasing threats from sea-level rise and storm surges, KRC works to design and advocate for more resilient hatcheries and coastal defenses. These efforts shield fragile nesting sites and nearby communities from climate-driven coastal destruction.
Education and Awareness
KRC engages schools, fishing communities, and local leaders in conservation education. By raising awareness of the ecological and economic value of sea turtles, mangroves, and wetlands, the Center empowers communities to become active custodians of their environment.
Supporting Livelihoods and Tourism
Through eco-tourism activities, turtle watching, and community tours, KRC creates alternative income sources. This reduces reliance on destructive practices such as poaching and overfishing, ensuring that protecting nature also protects household economies.
Partnerships and Community Networks
Working with the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, WA BiCC, Seawater Solutions Ltd., and WASTCON, the Center strengthens conservation through research, patrols, and community informant networks that help monitor poaching and illegal exploitation.
